Up River are somewhat of an enigmatic entity. With a string of demos, 7”s and digital releases under their belt on labels such as Italy’s awesome Anchors Aweigh, Up River have thus far cultivated a rabid underground fanbase simply with short stabs of melodic post-hardcore, whilst always threatening and teasing something more.
That time has now arrived in the form of coming-of-age debut album ‘Undertow’ – a record beautifully realised in scope, wrought with emotion and, crucially, memorable songs. With elements of post-hardcore, hardcore, emo and indie, Up River sound both reminiscent of some of their peers (Defeater, More Than Life, Touche Amore) whilst standing uniquely their own.
Recorded and mixed by Lewis Johns at The Ranch (Gnarwolves, Vales, Funeral For A Friend etc), mastered by Alan Douches and with artwork by Sam Phipps of Goodtime Boys, ‘Undertow’ is an expertly crafted, concise collection that will see Up River stand toe-to-toe with anyone…
